Smith Model 19 - We have covered the history of the 357 Magnum cartridge many times. It all started with the .38 Special cartridge. The .38 Special is a balanced and accurate cartridge.
Improvements in powder and bullet technology led to more powerful .38 Special loads. Special cases continue to be produced in .38 Special and .357 Magnum.
Smith Model 19
The original .357 Magnum was a heavy frame revolver similar to the modern Smith & Wesson Model 27 or 627. While well made and accurate, they are heavy to carry every day.

Smith & Wesson was a dominant force in the police market from the 1940s through the era of automatic rifles.
In the 1950's, they introduced a number of beautiful fans, including the Highway Patrolman and the Combat Magnum.
The Combat Magnum has the same features as the Model 10, but adds a nice top sight, adjustable rear sight, front sight, heavy bottom barrel, and grip.
It is similar to the .38 Combat Masterpiece, but improved on this rifle as well. The Combat Magnum is lighter and faster than the larger frame magnum revolvers.

When returning, the mantra of the day is not a hail of bullets, but a good-long bullet. The Magnum removes all doubts about its effectiveness in service firearms.
The accepted standard at the time was to fire 20 rounds of .38 Special for each round of Magnum. It works well.
The police model was held up to 50 meters, and many officers took good shots at that distance. The problem with long-term use is heavy on the small size.
The L-Frame, a heavier gun with the same capacity as the K-Frame Combat Magnum, was introduced to fans near the end of its service life.

Smith & Wesson recently reintroduced the Model 19. The K-Frame's durability issues with heavy loads have been addressed.
The new revolver has a 4.25-inch barrel, allowing a quarter-inch revolver to be added for sale in Canada. Smith & Wesson calls the new gun Classic, making its role in classic revolvers.
The action lock, hammer and hand are cast iron or MM material. MIM may not be case-hardened, but it has a good quality and finish.

Manual assembly is less and with modern CNC machines, tolerances are good. The rocket is not installed on the hammer, but on the shaft.
This is not a change-bar, but it is a good one for managing magnum recoil. The action took place in It was shorter than Combat Magnum, which went out of production in 1999.
Before the war (pre-1946) soldiers had long strokes. Although smooth, they are not as good for double shooting as modern revolvers that went into production in 1946 and continue to be developed today.
My original stainless steel combat magnum is very smooth but has been in service for over 30 years and some burnout has occurred.

Similarly, the modern Combat Magnum is at least compared to the K-Frame action from Smith & Wesson.
The barrel is not a metal shield, but a barrel with a heavy shield. The ejector rod is not locked on the barrel bolt, but goes into a recess in the frame.
This ball-retaining revolver provides excellent performance when locked and ready to fire. This system is reminiscent of the original three-lock revolver, a gun known for its accuracy, but locked in three places.
The face is very well defined and the edges are curved. This is practically a standard job. The double press makes a good roll of 10 pounds and is very good on a few parts.

After several months of use, the press is only under four pounds, perfect for most uses. The new walnut grips are better for most hands than the old Magna type.
The revolver holds up well in double-action shooting. It leads to security protection and external rotation. A good choice of ammunition for long-term use is the SIG Sauer Elite .38 practice special.
Using 125-grain FMJ bullets, this product is a very clean bullet. Powder combustion burns as completely as possible, leaving little ash in the powder.
An FMJ bullet will not stay in the board with the shavings. SIG Sauer has a 125-grain FMJ load in .357 Magnum. This is a very good business.

125-grain drill loads fire at the same rate as the 125-grain V-Crown, a significant advantage in practice ammunition.
I also tested the new Model 19 with the Hornady XTP load. Tough, accurate and reliable, this is the first choice for all magnum applications.
I shot multiple five groups at 25 yards, shooting from a stable bench and using each to advantage for accuracy.
Hornady offers the 125-grain XTP, high, as a general purpose. Hornady Critical Defense is a low-profile, purpose-built defense load.
Smith & Wesson Model 19 Classic
This revolver features a rubber grip and has a 2.75-inch barrel as well as a standard 4.25-inch barrel.
